HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.

..-.-The ordinary monthly meeting [of the ft^bove Board' Was hold, last evening in 'the Oounoil Chamber. Present— Messrs Everett (in the ohair), Pattie, P. Beat, and Heyward. The following amounts were passed for payment --Hospital, £153 8s 6dj Hospital Building, £300; Charitable Aid, £142 9a lid. I Several applications for relief were read from the oountry distriots, as well as from the town, and Mr Levien atated that there was a great deal of poverty existing, though many were too proud to seek assistance.— Referenoe was made by Mr t Gully to a case whioh had been brought under his notioe where an old woman who was receiving 15s a month from the Board had several married daughters in fair oiroumstanoes, only one of whom contributed towards her mother's support. The Ohairman said that although they oould not oompel the sons-in-law to oontribute, yet they ought to be ashamed of themselves, and Beveral other members agreed with this, deblaring that the conduot of the relatives was disgraceful. It waß re* solved that the relatives should be written to, and unless they assisted, the Board would publish the names.

Mr Hutsthourae's valuation of the improvements on the following Biwaka leases was read ac follows • -On R. Fry's leasehold, 40 aores, £260 18s; H. Maomahon's, 40 .aoros, £61 3a ; John Duncan's, 101 aores, £88 9b 6d; Joseph Duncan's (No. 1), 40 aores, £59 19s 9d ; Joseph Dunoan'a (No. 2). 40 aores, £68 13s 9d ; E. Fry's, 60 aores, £321 16 a. An assessment having been given by Mr Hursthouse of the rentals of those lease, holds, a disoussion ensued with regard to putting them up at auotion in two monthß time, after whioh the Board adjourned.
