LICENSING COMMITTEE.
The annual meeting of the Licensing Committee was held at noon to-day, all the members being on the benoh, namely, Messrs Trask (Chairman), Akersten, Everett, J. Soott, and Rev. F. W. Chatterton. The Ohairman requested Sergt. Slattery to make any remarka he might wish with regard to the conduot of the housos as the licensees' names were oalled out. The Sergeant said he had no remarks to make upon any of them. I Eleven o'olook licenses were then renewed without comment to the following appli' oants :— B. Osborne, Pier Hotel SA. De Vere/ Ship Hotel} J. 0, Williams, Trafalgar Hotel ; D. Andrews, Coaoh and Horses ; M, O'Nell, Nelsoa Hotel j W. Gledhill, Prinoe Albert; M. Beaver, Custom Houbo : H, Intermann, Clarendon ; T. Devine, Globe ; G. Thompson, Postboy { A. W. Bradley, Rising Bun ; H. T. Hall, Goldejj Fleece ; A, Tregea, Commeroial ; R, Gilmer, Masonip; A. Gray, Exohange ; W, R. Parmenter, Royal * A. Stallard, Panama ,* 0. King, Windsor Oastle ; G. Olear, Provinoial ; T, Corcoran, Bush Tavern, Bottle licenses were granted to Joshua Shields and Henry Hounsell, The Obairman asked the Sergeant of Polioe whether the polioe visited the hotels with a view to oheoking Sonday trading, the Oom-, mittee having been informed that it was oarried on. Sergeant Slattery said he would take care ■ that the polioe did so, but trade was bo dull that it had been soaroely worth while to visit them, The Ohairman morely wished the licensees to know that if they broke the law in this respect and lost their lioenses. the fault would lie with themselves and not with the Committee.
