FOOTBALL.
TAKAKA V, RIWAKA. • Recently a Union was effeoted between the Collingwood, Golden Bay, Takaka, and Riwaka Clubs, and the. second of a series of matches to be played was oonteated on the Riwaka ground between the Takaka and' Riwaka teams on Sacurday last. The weather was everything that could be desired and the ground as usual in splendid condition, The Takaka meu put in an appearance on the ground shortly after two o'olook, and a formidable learn they looked, butaa results proved they were not equal in skill to their lighter opponents. At about 3 o'olook play oommenaed, and J. Byrne mads a Bplendid kick oil for Takrka, the play con* tinuing with great spirit during the first spell, A. Askew obtaining the Am try for Riwaka. A good deal of rough play waa observed in the second bout and the looal men had all their work out out, foroe downs being constantly effected. M. ABkew, however, soored a good trj, and eoon after another waß obtained by A, Cedarman, whioh was all tbe scoring effected during ihe play, the game resulting in a victory lor Riwaka by 3 pointß to nil. During the play the Riwaka men worked well together, and a deoided improve* meut was noticeable in their play since thtir late contest with Biobmond, Tor Takaka H, aud M, Byrne and Soott did exoelltmt work as forwards and J. Byrne as baok, For Riwaka, Cedarman, Askew, A, and D, Dunoan, and D, Cook were oonspiouous for good play as forwards, and an equal share of praise is due to Arthur Dunoan and A, Askew as baoks, Air Sadd won favour on all aides by the very efficient and pleasant manner in whioh; he fulfilled the not always enviable post of referee, os also did Messrs Smith and Fry aB umpire,
