A ukbting of the members of the Poultry, Bird, and Dog Asiooiation was held last evening in the Oity Council Chamber, Mr F. Trssk be ng.in the ohair, The appointment of judges for the forthcoming show was dieoußßed at some length. A propoßicion to engage the services of a competent judge outside the distriot was negatived, it being agreed that the expense would be too great. It waa finally decided to appoint loaal gentlemen to aot in thia oapaoity, and this was done. It was also resolved that the poultry and doga b« divided into soveral eeotions, a judge being appointed to every one. Thb first of a series of leotures. in oonneotion with the All Saints Young Men'B Institute, was given last evening in the All Saints Bobroolroom bv the Rev. F. W. Cbatterton entitled " The Earth's History aa Written in Stone," Mr Beeoham being in the ohair. After an exceedingly well delivered and in* s (motive address a hearty vote of thanks was aooorded the rev.leoturer. The next leoture will be delivered by Mr Blylh, formerly Native Oommiaßioner at Fiji. The inaugural meeting of the Nelson Temperance League will be held this evoning in the Provincial Hall, when Mr T. Field will be in the ohair. Tho Revs. F. W. Chatterton and F. W. Isitt aud others will addreas tho meeting, and will alao answer any reasonable questions.. There will be a collection taken to defray expenses, but no charge will be made for admission. They are, however, requested to meet at the Ohuroh at half-past ten on Sunday morning. A gband lime light exhibition of a vory interesting nature is to be given in the Theatre on the 11th June. The subject is '•Lighta and Shades of London Life," depicting some new and excelleut aponea from Darkest England. These viewa will be illuminated by Mr Holland's powerful lime light machinery, and aome of the piotures, though about 18ft in diameter, will be really well defined, Tne views are to be accompanied by a good descriptive leoture, fuller particulars of whioh will be advertised. A sale of work ia oonneotion with ,the Baptist Ohuroh will ba held on Wednesday next, when a large stock of useful and fanoy articles will be offered for aale. The proceeds are to be devoted to the "Now Ohuroh Fund, " and the members of the congregation are hopeful of raiaing a considerable sum by the bazaar, On Thursday evening a tea will be given in the sohoolroom, after whioh any artioles remaining from the aale will be Bold. Thb installation of Worshipful Master and investiture of officer of the Viotory Lodge of Freemasons will take place at the Lodge Room, Collingwood Btreet, this evening, commencing at seven o'olook sharp. Bro. fl. J. Williamß, of Wellington, Grand Director of Ceremonies, N.Z.0., will be the installing offioer. All Masonio brethren are cordially invited to be present, A banquet will be held in the lodge room at tho oloso of the ceremony.
