NELSON TROTTING CLUB.
A meeting of the Stewards was held last night, Mr Wix in the chair. A letter having been received from the Colonial Secretary to the effect that permission to use the totaliaator would not be granted unless the condition of the Novel Trot Handicap were altered so that the Club should only retain the surplus over £li from the proceeds of the sale of the winners, it was resolved to make the alteration, and to postpone the nominations for this event until Friday night. It was resolved to engage the Fire Brigade Band to play on the course, and arrangements were made for the totalisator. Reference was made to the different views entertained with regard to the Queen's BirtMay holiday, fta d it was stated that as
the public offices and Banks would be closed on Saturday which would be observed as n. general holiday, the Stewards did not setheir wny to make any alterations in the day fixed for the meeting.
