LAND BOARD.

The Board met at 11 o'clock this morning. Present : Messrs Curtis, Hursthouse, and Commissioner. Greenfield. Minutes of previous meeting were read and approved. An applicxtiou from '• Tho Westport Wallsend Coal Company, Limited " for the purchase or lease of section 2, block i, Ngakawau was considered. The Com missioner read correspondence with the Government relative to the application.— Resolve 1 that a lease of half the section, say 10 acres, including half the flat laud, be granted to the company for the unexpired term of the coal lease held by the company, on tt.e following terms and conditions :— Rent £20 per annum payable in advance : land to be used only for bonafida works and buildings in connection with the Company's coal mine ; no oottages for workmen or miners to be erected on the land (manager's house excspted) ; no portion of the land to be transferred or sub let without the consent of the Minister of Lands ; if the coal leaße be forfeited or surrendered, this lease to terminate also, the Company not to be entitled to compensation tor works or build ings in such case ; the cost of preparing lease (and survey, if necessary), to be paid by the Company. . The following occupation, licenses were granted :— C. Gapper, 3000 acres, Aorere, £10 per annum ; Dunn and Casserly, 1 000 acres, Ahaura, £6 5s .' William Wratt, 18 acres 26 perches, Section 31, Ahaura, £1 ; W. 'iaylor, 1000 acres. Mount Arthur, £i 3s 4d ; T. W. Mead, 1000 acres, Motupiko, £1 10 b ; Henry Newport, 100 acres, Takaka, £1 10 a, The following occupation licenses were refused :— M. Shannahan, 200 acres timbered land, Mawheranui ; Rose Win, Rotorua Reserve. The following applications for occupation licenses were postponed:— R. Edgar, 200 acres, Hope; D. Bufcching, 211 acres, Hope; (insufficient description in advertisement). J. Bannon, 3 acres, Mawheraiti; B.Rogers, 260 acres, Reef ton; (referred to Warden). A flax license was granted to H. Norgate over 60 acres in the Motueka district. Term, 5 years; rent, Is per acre, and royalty of 5s per ton on all dressed flax produced from the land licensed. A letter was- received from W. Diamond asking for reconsideration of assessment of Section 13, Block IV, Aorere, 123 6d per acre. Resolved that the assessment be not granted, An applioatioD from Messrs Danniston, Mitchell, and others for a mineral loase of--100 aores, Mount Arthur district, was postponed for further enquiry. Letters from Mr Hadfield were read objeoting to the reserve above high water mark round that seotion of land applied for by him at Awaroa. R3solvaa that the Board approve of the reserve being made and oannot consent to any alteration of the survey.
