The rules of the Mercantile Marine Officers' Association were considered and approved by the Maritime Council this morning.

. The discussion of the scheme for the formation of a defence fund was continued, and a plan was agreed on. Every member of all affiliated bodies is to contribute Us per quarter, and the sum accruing from this is to be devoted to the general defence fund and used purely as a defence fund, and to assist kindred Societies who may be attacked. The fuud is to be vested in the hands of trustees, and to be under the control of the executive of the Council.

A deputation from tho Council is to wait on the Premier to morrow for the purpose of bringing under the notice of the Government the amendments which they wish to have effected in several statutes respecting labour.
