( From our own Correspond ert.) Blenheim. October 13. One seventh .hare in the Southern Cross reef has changed hands to day for £100. The original cost five pounds. A new reef has been struck 4ft Gin thick near the Southern Cross and Waikakaho boundary, Homan and party obtained on Thnrsday between five and six ounces on their terrace. There is estimated to be between 800 and 900 people at Mahakipawa independent of Waikakaho. A shaft has been sunk on the upper portion of the flat 53ft deep, and bottomed ion a sloping reef. From this it ia intended to drive and then again sink to get into deep ground. Johnson and party o£ Picton have got their steam engine on the ground with pumps all ready preparatory to ainkiog their shaft. Three more reefing claims are marked on., They extend down the plain towards Cullen's, and consist of Golden Shore, 30 acres : Shamrock, 30 acres ; and Green Harp, 15 acres. Hippolite and party have bottomed the main creek, and good gold is being obtained. A rush, has set in on the east side of Mahakipawa to a small creek on Cowie.' property, and good prospects have been obtained, but the ground is limited. Homan and party obtained about 23ozs in two days thia week, inoluding a nugget of 7oza. The miners are coming and going daily. The field is overcrowded, and a largo number oi men are doing nothing. Very little of importai.ee has transpired at Waikakaho during the week, but important developments are expeoted in a day or two, Later. At Hart and Gibsons' at Waikakaho, " the prospectors" took Bozs s_wt_ of gold out of a small paddock on Wednesday, one piece a five ounce nugget. Aldridge and party struck gold on Thursday, and by the end of the week expect to get on good gold.
