Masterton, June 6. A fire broke out in. a grain store in Fuller Street at 1245 this morning. The building whioh was owned by F. Gray, was completely destroyed, and the contents were burned or damaged by water. The insurances are : — New Zealand, contents £530, sacks oata £80, sacks wheat owned by Carr £275 ; National, £300, and on sacks of oats belonging to Lowes and Co. £125 ; National : Adjoining cottage partly damaged £100. Dunkdin. June 6. Charles, aged 8 years, eon of James Fowler of Mosgiol, was killed yesterday, by bis horse bolting with the boy, who hung by kis foot from the stirrup. John Johnmann, 22 years old, was killed in Flag Swamp by falling under his dray in endeavouring to check his runaway horses. Auckland, Jane 6. John Smyths, a sailor on 'the steamer Ashleigh Brook, waa charged this morning with smaggling £5 worth of cigars. He waa fined £10 and coat, or 21 days hard labor. The barque Sophia Luhrs belonging to the Union Steam Ship Company has gone ashore on the North Spit at Kaipara Heads. It is supposed, that she parted her cable daring the southeast wind on Monday night. The orew are all saved. The sea ifl break" ing over the vessel.
