N. Z. BIFLB ASSOCIATION. NORTHERLY BUSTERS. Wanganui. A equad was told off to test the Auckland ammunition, and the trial proved to be an utter failure. Tbe first shot fired burst the breach of the carbine, a seoond breach being injured. Churton had his hammer blown clean off on firing his first shot. Several | who fired the cartridges had the powder flashed into their face, while one competitor's eyebrows were singed. In nearly every instance the end of the cartridge blew out, the remainder being left in the barrel, and it was with great difficulty it could fre removed. The men positively refused to fire with the ammunition, and immediately Capt Somerville saw the danger attached to these cartridges he ordered " cease firing," and all ammunition which had been distributed waa collected and returned to the store. The fault appears to be in the cartridges being
only singly bound instead of thrice as in those imported. The foaling from the cartridges isalso very great, and after firing it is with difficulty the breach oan be opened,
