THE ADELINE RENWICK TRUST.

We have been requoated to publish the following extract from the will of the lao Mrs Renwick. It will be seen that Sir David Monro and Mr John Sharp were appointed trustees under that provision of the will which relates to the £2000 to be expanded upon the building of six cottages for the poor of Nelson, but Sir/ David Monro haviDg died in the meantime, Mr Sharp declined to accept the trust, and applied to the Supreme Court for an order vesing the money in the Public Trustee. The clause referred to runs as follows:— j I declare and direct that the Baid David Monro and John Sharp, and the survivor of them, and the executors or administrators of such survivor, their and his assigns, Bhall stand poEseesed of the said aum of £2000, as the case may be, upon trust by and with a sufficient part thereof to purchase a piece of land situate near or adjoining to (he Town of Nelson aforesaid, and to erect and build thereon six small cottages of two rooms each, and from time to to time, for ever, to permit the said cottages respectively to be occupied by such sick or indigent persons of either sex, and of any denomination, as Bhall be chosen and elected for the purpose, as hereinafter mentioned. And upon further trust to lay out and invest, and keep invested, the residue of the said sum of £2000 upon Government or real security in the colony of New Zealand, and receive the iaterests and dividends from time to time to arise therefrom, and thereout to pay the expenses of keeping the said cottages in good tenantable repair and condition and all expenses incidental thereto and to the trust hereby created,! and from time to time monthly to pay and distribute the clear residue of such interest and dividends between and among the per sons for^ the time being occupying such: cottages in such sums, shares, and propor-; tions as they the said Sir David Monro and; John Sharp, or the Burvivor of them, orother trustees or trustee for the time being ' of the said charity, shall from time to time ; see fit. And I direct that the trustees or trustee for the time. being of the 6aid charity i shall nominate and elect the persons so to occupy the said cottages respectively -as aforesaid. And I direct acd authorize the said Sir David Monrp and John Sharp, or the survivor of them, to make and execute such deeds and other instruments for the better settlement of the said charity, property, and funds, for the purposes aforesaid, and for the regulation of the said charity, and for the appointment of new and permanent trustees thereof, and io appoint such trustees for the purpose thereof, and to make rules and regulations for the government of the said charity, and for tbe admission and government of tbe persons applying for or obtaining the benefit thereof or otherwise in relation thereto, as they or he shall in their or his discretion see desirable or fit.
