The Nelson Evening Mail. WEDNESDAY, JUNE 18, 1879.

We have received a telegram from the Bishop of Nelson from Greymouth announcing the death of the Rev. G. T. N. Watkins which took place this morning after a long illness. Mr Watkins will be very much missed at Greymouth, where he has ministered for many years, and his loss will be deeply lamented by young and old of all classes and sects. The Corporation of the City of NelHon was this morning deprived of two sixpences to which it had an undoubted right. Two cowkeepera were charged each with allowing one animal to stray on the roads, and they were ordered to be fined 2s 6d and costs. Ail fines of every decription, are now payable in stamps and stamps only, and no sooner had the judgment been pronounced than it occurred to the Clerk of the Court that the fines imposed could not be paid, as neither half-crown or sixpenny stamps are to be had. The Bench were informed of the dilemma, from which they found an easy means of escape by reducing the fine to two shilMngs, to the gain of the offenders and the loss of the Corporation. Thb irrepressible Captain Edwin is again giving utterance to gloomy forebodings. This afternoon he reports ;—« Watch bar- ?£« w' - w «* ther approaching, anydirecS™ini e ! n ,, nort^ and west and Bouth-west.. Glass \»ul fall again Boon," i
