In a recent police court report the Auckland Star says:— Thomas Pender- ! vil le, with two black eyes and the tip ; off his nose, was fined 10s and costs for being drunk. Mr T. Kennedy Macdonald, a resident in Wellington, writes to the Mayor of that' town calling attention to the defective drainage. His letter, which is dated October 12, commences with the following pathetic sentence: — [ Sir — I desire to bring under your notice i the fact that during the last six weeks I have had the whole of ray family, i consisting of three healthy "boys, cut j off by scarlet fever, arising mainly, in my opinion, from the want of drainage existing in and about the quarter 1 reside in.
