The Nelson Evening Mail. MONDAY, JULY 12, 1869.
Supreme Court. — The time of the Court has been occupied tbe whole of this day in the case of Hill v. White, which had not terminated when we went to press. Resident Magistrate's Court. — Cornelius O'Driscoll and Susau Hayden, charged with being drunk and incapable, were fined 10s. each and costs. Henry Baly, for allowing his chimney to take fire on the evening of Saturday, the 3rd inst., was fined 10s. and costs. Steamer Kennedy. — We are sorry to hear that this favourite boat run aground on tho Nonh spit of the Hokitika Bar yesterday morning. Preparations had been made for launching her, and it was expected that she would be got off tomorrow afternoon or Wednesday morning. Steamer Bruce: — The Greymouth Evening Star, of Bth inst says — " We are extremely sorry to have to report, that the old favorite p.s.' Bruce is past all redemption, having with the heavy sea of last night gone to pieces by separating fail ly in the centre. She commenced to break up last night, and this morning separated by the stokehold, and she now lies a total wreck. Hopes had been entertained that she might have been saved and have yet done good service to the coast and to her owner, but since her stranding nothing but bad. -weather has prevailed, aud all efforts to launch her were fruitless. Her loss is great, not only to her recent purchasers, Messrs. Harper aud Houghton, but will be felt so by the merchants and travellers of the West Coast, for more reasons than one. Nelson Hospital. — We have received the monthly report of this institution, which shows that on 31st May the number of patients remaining under treatment wns 15; there were admitted during the month of June, 8, making a total of 23, of these there were discharged— cured 4, relieved 7; one was scut to the Lunatic Asylum, -leaving on 30th June, 11. The total number under treatment during the corresponding month of last year was 24. Thirty-one persons, including out-patients, have been supplied with medicine or medical appliances during the month of June.
