North Canterbury Families Linked By Marriage

A wedding of particular interest to North Canterbury residents took place at the church of St. Mary's and St. Frances de Sales last week, when Rita Elizabeth, second daughter of Mr and Mrs William Smith, Fernside, was married to Hugh Boyd, eldest son of Mrs •and the late Mr John Catherwood, Springbank. The Reverend Father Leen and Father McKay officiated and Miss Dorothy Brady was the organist. . The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore an Empire frock of pearl satin, with long fitting sleeves, the neckline being gathered by honey-comb-ing. The train, commencing at the waist-line, was pin-tucked to form pleats and flared out to a fan-shape at the hem, which was scalloped! and threaded horizontally with tiny satin buttons. Her long tulle veil, which was bordered with tiny frills, fell from three handmade camelias, and her bouquet was composed of freisrias and maidenhair fern.. Misses Rhona and Joyce Smith, sisters of the bride, attended! as bridesmaids, and were dressed alike in frocks of cyclamen-pink satin poult made" with fan-shaped bodices, gathered necklines, short full sleeves, and full skirts with stitched sun-ray pleats. Their head L dresses were of cyclamen and lavender hyacinths with shaded: lace veils, and tbey carried bouquets of lavender sweet peas, hyacinths and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by his two brothers, Messrs Ray and Les Catherwood l as best man and groomsman respectively. The reception was held at the A. and P Hall, where the bride's mother, assisted by the bridegroom's mother, received the guests.. Mrs Smith wore a dusky, navy tailored' costume, with a white blouse. Her hat was navy and • white and a skunk stole completed her ensemble. She carried a bottquet of sweet peas and anemones. Mrs Catherwood's boler* suit was of resida green wool georgette, with which she wore a black fur stole and a green hat with a bandeaux of pink flowers, her shoulder spray being cyclamens, daphne and maidenhair fern. When Mr and Mrs H. Br Catherwood left on their wedding tour the bride was wearing a two-piece suit, the brown Mexican bolero, being worn over a frock in rust coloured delustred suede, with skirt of sunray pleating and a hat en suite. She carried a brown coat, trimmed with American opossum fur. Their future home will be at Fendalton. POST-WEDDING DANCE At a dance held later in the A. and P. Hall Messrs' L. Catherwood and A. Smith were the M.C.'s, and music for dancing was supplied by Miss D. Brady, with extras by Mr F. Evans. Novelty dances were won by Miss J. Kennedy and Mr R. Morris (Monte Carlo), and Mr and Mrs E. Snellex (lucky spot).
