CYCLING NOTES

Weekly Race Held

FAST TIME BY G. L. THOMSON

Last week’s race run by the Rangiora Cycling Club round the Bell’s Road block was won by G. L. Thomson, who rode from scratch to finish several lengths ahead of the rest. His time, under ideal conditions, was exceptionally fast, 29 minutes 45 seconds. C. W. Shilton, his co-marker, punctured in the second round of the block and withdrew. Second and third places were filled by R. Sinclair and R. Sincock respectively. The boys’ race was won by M. Blake, ■with D. Dennis second and fastest time, and J. Bailey third.

LEFT FOR AUCKLAND G. L. Thomson, who has been selected to represent Canterbury in the Empire Games Trials at Auckland this week, left last night for the north.

After the trials, the riders to go to Australia next year will be picked. Thomson, who has been riding particularly well, stands a fair chance of selection.
