AUCKLAND, Wed. (Sp.)—Rodney scored a first-innings win and Whangarei suffered a first-innings loss iwhen the Country Week tournament opened yesterday. Whangarei was dismissed for 59 in its first innings and after Franklin had declared with 155 for 8, scored 97 in its second innings 1o avoid outrigh’ defeat. by two runs. Rodney beat Auckland by 106 runs and, in the other match, Franklin B beat Kaip -a by 161 runs. Scores:— WHANGAREI: First innings. 59 (C Cooper 3-14, L. Johnson 3- 7).
