Homemade Bomb Hurled Info Garden Of Melbourne K. C.

MELBOURNE, Sat. (11.30 a.m.). —A jam-tin bomb hurled into the front gar deli of the home of Mr Robert Monahan, K.C., at the Melbourne suburb of Kew, last night, shattered two windows and made a crater in the lawn, but did not injure Mr Monahan or his family.

The police Jink the bombing with the kidnapping of Solomon Ravdell from his home in'South Yarra at the beginning of this month, and litigation involving Ravdell’s son, Maurice, which preceded the kidnapping. Mr Monahan was counsel to Maurice Ravdell in this.

During the hunt for .the kidnappers anonymous telephone threats were received by Mr Monahan and other counsel who appeared for Maurice Ravdell.

In last night’s incident the homemade bomb thrown from the footpath landed on Mr Monahan's front lawn, where it made a hole 12in. in diameter and 6in. deep. Police, who arc investigating, think the bomb was designed to frighten rather than injure members of Mr Monahan's household, and Mr Monahan agrees with this view. It was revealed last night that the arbitrator in tne legal action won recently by Maurice Ravdell, Mr E. H. Hudons, K.C., received a telephone threat last Sunday. The anonymous caller said: “You will die,” and hung up. After the bombing last night the police placed a guard at Mr Monahan’s home and warned members of the Ravdell family and other counsel to be on their guard.
