Whangarei WDFF Birthday Party
The Whangarei branch of the WDFF held its 16th birthday party at the YWCA rooms on Wednesday. Sixty-odd members and friends attended and, after the singing of the Division Song, the president (Mrs Peat) welcomed the guests and invited all to do justice to the heavilyladen lunch tables.
Later, Mrs Peat lighted the candles on the birthday cake which she had presented to the branch and called on Mrs Smith, a senior member, to blow them out.
Mrs Thompson, deputising for Mrs Fraser, president of the Marsden Provincial, cut the cake, and wished the branch good luck and many more birthdays.
Presidents of the visiting branches each in turn gave birthd. greetings and presented Mrs Peat With lovely flowers.
SOCIAL HOUR. A social hour follot ed Mrs Marsden Woods and Mrs Bficrly presented an amusing dialogue. Mr Mason sang two delightful songs, and i Mullineaux gave humorous recitations. Mrs Bartlett wa„ the accompanist and also played the piano for a musical competition and community singing. Shoulder sprays were presented to the Mayoress (Mrs Jones), guest artists and visiting presidents of other women’s organisations. The musical competition was won by Mrs Mason. The lucky spot chair by Mrs Music, and the cake by Mrs Norman Jones.
The singing of the National Anthem brought a most pleasant afternoon to a close.
The lovely flowers used for the decorations of the room and tables were later presented to the patients at the hospital.
