WASHINGTON, Thu.—Major-Gen-eral Anthony McAulifle, chief of the Army Chemical Corps, said that the United States must be ready to strike back with gas and germ weapons because Russia would not hesitate to use them in the event of war. General McAuliffe said he thought that the United States would never be the first nation to use gas and germs in war, but he would look upon them as purely retaliatory weapons.
