Severe Budget Next?
LONDON, Thu. (Noon)—Reuters political correspondent says Ministers’ speeches in the economy debate strengthened the belief that the Government —if still in power after the election —will follow up its £280,000,000 post-devaluation cuts with a severe Budget. The deputy Prime Minister (Mr Morrison) said that anyone who thought that this was the end of the Government's efforts would soon be undeceived. There is no belief that the Government contemplates a second over-all economy slash such as that announced this week, but Cabinet has issued new instructions to all departments to continue retrenchment so that next year’s Budget estimates can be further reduced.
