Mr James Brock
OBITUARY
One of the oldest pioneer residents of the Marlow district, Mr .Tamer, Brock, has died at the age of 90. Mr Brock was born in England in 1859, and. at an early age, he and his brother, Mr Edward Brock, went to Canada. While there they helped to construct the Canadian Pacific Railway. They returned to England, later coming to New Zealand, where they worked at Gisborne for a few years.
Later they came to Northland and settled in the Ramarama Valley, which was renamed Marlow, after their home town in England. They converted unroaded, virgin bush into a successful dairy farm, and Mr Brock and his brother also owned a butchery business at Towai for many years. Mr James Brock was a foundation member of the Towai Agricultural Association and also of the Hikurangi Dairy Company. Mr Brock took oart in the building of the Towai Anglican Church, of which he had been a staunch member. Fifty years ago he married Miss Mary Elizabeth Forsyth, of Apotu. He is survived by his wife, two sons, two daughters, 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The children are Messrs James and Edward Brock (Marlow), Mrs I. M. Clements (Matapouri) and Mrs M. Colcroft (Towai).
