Swing Towards Smuts' Party
JOHANNESBURG. Thu. al a.m.).— The swing towards Field Marshal Smuts' United Party and away from the Nationalist Party is indicated by the results of the Transvaal municipal elections. In Pretoria the United Party recaptured control of the municipal council after a long period of Nationalist rule. It won seats even in hitherto strongly Nationalist wards. In Johannesburg the United Party had a clean-sweep victory.
