Prize Offered For Festival Overture
AUCKLAND, Wed. (P.A.)—A prize will be offered for a festival overture at the 1950 Auckland music festival. The Auckland Music Council decided at its first annual meeting today that it will endeavour to include in each year’s programme work by a New Zealand composer. “The fact that a piece of music has been performed over and over again seems too often the reason for it to be played again at a concert or festival,” said Mr Julius Hogben, chairman of the council. Music was an adventure and societies and musicians should adopt an adventurous spirit towards it.
Lately there had been an evident growth of public interest in music and the society must try to advance that interest.
