CANBERRA. — Displaced pei'sons were making a substantial contribution to basic industries, in Australia, the Commonwealth Minister for Labour (Mr E. J. Holloway) said recently Up till. April 8, 1949, 13,060 displaced persons had been allotted e’rff ployment by the Commonweal t. Employment Service. Of these, 55, were employed in building production. 2064 in hospitals and institutions, 4815 in public utilities, 1523 in the timber industry, and 1401 in rural industry, he said.

A condition of entry into Australia of displaced persons is that they must engage for two years in employment chosen by the Commonwealth Government.—Reuters.
