Navy Scrubs The Modern Way

LONDON, Fri. —A new, large destroyer fitted with revolutionary labourrsaving devices, is to be launched on Wednesday. The Admiralty states that the lab-our-saving machines are a major departure from the Royal Navy’s “scrubbing” tradition.

There are electric vacuum cleaners, electric flails for chipping paint, electric washing machines and potato peelers and an electric laundry. The new destroyer will be named Daring, and from her a new class of large destroyer will take its name. Daring is 309 ft long, and has a beam of 43ft. * She has an all-welded hull and incorporates several lessons learned during the war. She will have six 4.5 in. guns, six smaller guns, and two torpedo tubes.
