Transport Appeals
WELLINGTON, Fri. (Sp.)—“We feel there is ample protection,’’ said the Minister of Transport (Mr Hackett) in the House of Representatives yesterday in reply to an objection by Mr R. M. Algie (O—Remuera) that there was no appeal from decisions of transport appeal authorities. Mr Hackett said there was recourse to the courts when a case of jurisdiction had to be settled. The case of the King versus Fraser was an example. It must be borne in mind that the president of these ad hoc bodies was a Supreme Court judge. At the request of Mr Algie, who described Mr Hackett’s explanation as unsatisfactory, the Minister agreed to refer the relevant clauses in the Transport Bill to the Statues Revision Committee before the third reading.
