You Can Buy A Car For £4500
WELLINGTON, Fri. (Sp.)—Certain Government departments such as the police, were exempted from the use of the word •'Govt” on their numberplates, as they did not want “Government” written all over their cars, the Minister of Transport (Mr Hackett) said in the House of Representatives yesterday. Ministers of the Crown used cars with ordinary number-plates. Mr Hackett was replying to a question by Mr S. W. Smith (O —Hobson) on the use of ministerial cars. ‘There is nothing luxurious about Ministers of the Crown," said Mr Hackett. Mr J. T. Watts (O—St Albans): I’ll say there’s not. Mr Hackett offered to sell any member of the Opposition one of the cars purchased for the Royal tour at cost, plus tax. This would work out at from £3500 to £4500.
