Records In Air Transport Last Year
WELLINGTON. Fri. (Sp.).—Records in passengers and freight were established by the National Airways Corporation on its internal services in the year ended March 31. The number of passengers was 174.836, against 154,329 in the previous year, while the freight totalled 1,934,6261 b, compared with 1,211,3451 b. The corporation's aeroplanes flew 4.015,831 m(les, compared with 3,320,992. The number of aircraft operated was 35, against 33. Tasman Empire Airways, Ltd, carried 24,597 passengers in its own flvingboats and in chartered machines. The flyingboats took 10.915 passengers and the charter services 13,682. The passengers carried in the previous year totalled 18,792. The charter services carried 260,8061 b of freight and the flyingboats 116,3721 b. Pan American Airways carried 1786 passengers into and 888 from New Zealand. British Commonwealth Pacific Airlines brought 746 to the Dominion and carried 296 outward-bound passengers.
