WGHS Wins Hockey Loses Basketball
The second annual series of hockey and basketball matches between Whangarei Girls’ High School and Otahuhu Technical High School' was plavpd at Auckland yesterday. ■ The WGHS hockey team scored a decisive s—o win, but the basketbailers f ound the opposition strong and the two games were keenly contested. In the match between the first teams. Otahuhu .won 13—11 after the lead had see-sawed throughout the game. Otahuhu Intermediate beat Whangarei Intermediate 14—11. The goals for Whangarei in the hockey match were scored by Margaret Drew 2, Isobel Dyer, Laurine Hansen and Norma Downey. Lyn Hayes, a back, was the outstanding player of the match. Shirley Davison and Jennifer Dunbar were the stars of the basketball match. The Whangarei-Otahuhu games were not played last year on account of the polio epidemic.
