COLOUR CHANGE Red clover and green primroses have been handed into the Advocate by Mr W. M. Harper, of Tiltipunga. They were found on Mr Harper’s property together with normal plants. Green primroses are fairly common but red clover is unusual. The clover is of a dull red hue with a yellow band on it. Another primrose, -a double, was also handed in. It. is a green flower, with a normal purple one pushed up through the centre. VAN ON PATH The driver of a light delivery van was in the habit of driving on the footpath under the shop verandahs at the top of Bank Street, it was alleged at last night’s meeting of the Wbangarci Residents and Ratepayers’ Association. The incidents were stated to happen about 7 a.m. on Friday mornings and the van was said to mount the footpath at Cross Street and to continue on the path until it reached Manse Street. The matter is to be referred to the Traffic Department. WORK FOR LADY BOWLERS Men as voluntary workers are effecting a transformation of the Marsden Ladies' Bowling Club’s property at Mains Avenue, Whangarei. At the same time they arc performing a service to some of the street's residents from whose sections rocks arc gathered. The rocks are used for the ’foundation of a driveway into the properly. Mostly preparatory work is being done at present and the formation of the greens will be undertaken when weather permits. It was previously

intended to lay one green in sawdust and one in grass, but, owing to cost, it has since been decided to have both areas, formed with the sawdust mixture. Now that the venture is on an organised basis a call has been made for more voluntary workers. BILLIARDS CHAMPS Continuing the Northland B grade billiards championships last night, M. Conaghan beat S. Jolliffe 250—232. In the second game T. Brown beat W. Griffiths 250—170. In the games to be played on Monday night J. P. Brown will meet S. Quin and R. Snooks will play E. M. Harrison. PORTLAND EXTENSION The latest New Zealand Gazette includes a notice to the effect that Wilsons (N.Z.i Portland Cement Ltd has been granted a licence to extend the existing wharf at Portland. The extension, which is part of the company’s plan for general development at the works, will involve the lengthening of the present wharf by 100 ft structure of reinforced concrete.
