Astor Offers To Split Prize-money
LONDON, Wed. G p.m.).—Lord Astor today offered to treat the Goodwood Bentinck Stakes as a dead-heat and divide the first and second prizemoney with the French owner, M. Nicot. Lord Astor’s horse. High Stakes, was declared winner when the judges misread a photo-finish picture last Wednesday. In a letter to M. Nicot, Lord Astor said he accepted the decision of the judge and stewards that High Stakes was to be treated as the winner of the Bentinck Stakes. His offer to pool the prize-money was not to be taken as a precedent or as challenging the judges’ verdict.
