New Commander For Bellona
WELLINGTON. Fri. (P.A.).— The Minister of Defence (Mr Jones) said today that Captain D. HammersleyJohnston will complete his full appointment of 18 months in command of HMNZS Bellona in October and will be relieved by Captain J. H. RuckKeene, R.N. The latter will leave England in September and join Bellona in Australian waters. Captain Ruck-Keene joined the Royal Navy as a midshipman in 1919. was promoted lieutenant-commander in 1932 and later served in the battlecruiser Hood. He was promoted commander in 1933 and served in destroyers during the early part of the war, receiving the Distinguished Service Cross in July. 1940. After further active service he received the 0.8. E. in June, 1942. In June. 1943, he was appointed executive officer of the cruiser Orion, and was promoted captain of the ship a year later. He later commanded a destroyer flotilla, and, for the past two years had been naval attache at the Warsaw Embassy.
