Govt Refuses Chch.Sydney Air Route
WELLINGTON, Sat. (Sp.).-An application from Australian National Airways to operate a landplane air service between Sydney and Christchurch had been declined by the Government, said the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Jones) yesterday. A private company would not be permitted to operate on a route in competition with Government-owned services. NELSON SERVICE.—The National Airways Corporation will introduce a combined freight and passenger air service between Nelson, Blenheim and Christchurch as soon as a homer beacon is installed at Blenheim. Dominie aircraft will be withdrawn from the Nelson-Paraparaumu service at the end of this month and will be replaced by Lodestars. There will be one trip daily on the Nelson-Christchurch route, which is expected to open by the end of the year. The service will be operated either by Lodestar or Douglas aircraft.
AIRPORT.—No decision has yet been made by the Government concerning the site for Auckland’s new international airport, said the Minister of Civil Aviation (Mr Jones) in reply to a question in the House of Representatives yesterday. Mr Jones said it might be a little time yet before an announcement was made.
