Many Killed in Big Explosion
BERLIN, Fri. (2 p.m.)— About 60 people were killed and 300 injured when a German ammunition dump exploded in Pruem, near Coblenz, in the French zone of Germany tonight, says Routes Coblenz correspondent. French Army units, German police and fire brigades from Coblenz and the surroundiing area have been rushed to the scene.
Whole streets were shattered by the force of the explosion. BUILDINGS COLLAPSE
The town hospital and post offices were among the buildings which collapsed. Fires broke out in many parts of the town.
The explosion cut electric power lines and plunged the town into darkness.
Experts believe the ammunition ignited itself as a result of the extremely hot weather during the past few days.
