EGGS TO BE CHEAPER
Auckland egg prices will be reduced by a further 3d a dozen on Monday. This reduction will bring t.he retail price of standard hen eggs to 3/7d a dozen, a fall of 5d a dozen in the past fortnight.. The lower prices result from the seasonal increase in supplies. NOW WE KNOW! PORT AUCKLAND Siren blasts from other overseas ships greeted the Port Line’s new motor-ship Port Auckland when it berthed at Central Wharf yesterday. Although the Port Auckland anchored at Motuihi last month it was the first time the ship had been berthed in the port and, to mark the occasion, it was dressed with bunting. Official visits were paid to the ship. WORKED ON ONE WINCH Although only one of her two winches was in working order, the Northern Steamship Company's 186ton motor vessel Tuhoe was able to discharge her load of 100 tons of general cargo in reasonable time at Whangarei yesterday. She berthed in time for an 8 a.m. start and with a full gang, ol y aterslders, her single winch
worked almost continuously. The cargo was unloaded in time for the vessel to leave for Auckland in the late afternoon. Her unserviceable wiach in under repair.
