Excellent Tone For NZ Wool In London
LONDON, Fri. (11 a.m.)—There was an excellent tone to the market at the London wool sales on Thursday and Friday, when 41,300 bales were ofi'ei'ed, including 18,500 bales from New Zealand, and the clearance was good, says the committee of London wool brokers. The most outstanding feature of the sales was the intense competition for greasy crossbreds, which were fully 5 per cent dearer than last week. Medium qualities, in particular-, were in great demand for the Continent and Bradford, bidding on all lots being brisk and widespread. ORDER FOR GERMANY It is believed that a large order was being undertaken on behalf of Germany. Some extreme prices were paid for the small and average style offering of halfbreds, bought on Continental account, while scoured crossbreds sold very well, largely to Bradford. In view of the large offering, the market for slipes was very sound and better-length halfbred lambs were often 5 per cent dearer than last week, but prices for other types were from par to 5 per cent cheaper.
