BOROUGH IMPROVEMENTS
ough. Firstly, it is about time something was done to make
the rubbish collection a bit more hygienic. . At' present the whole side of the lorry is open and rubbish is tipped in by manual efforts. It does not matter if a wind is blowing and quite a bit of the rubbish returns to the street from where it was taken, as the writer has witnessed on several occasions. Surely something can be done to control it once it has reached the lorry. Why not investigate the Auckland system, where the rubbish is hoisted by a hydraulic lift and everything is lender hygienic control. Also the water tables in the side streets. <are a disgrace. Grass is choking up the quick movement of water on a Sudden deluge and water overflows on to property. The writer knows of a case recently where three ladies, in desperation, went out and cleared the concrete . water tables, hopelessly blocked by this kikuyu grass in Nixon Street. Surely the council could use its grader to better effect to try and keep things clear : or if this is unsuitable, other mechanical devices should be able to keep things better than they are now.—“ACTION NOW.”
