The cover design for Whangarei s forthcoming publicity booklet came in for trenchant criticism at last night s meeting, of the Whangarei Chamber of Commerce. The cover was a sketch on a blue background showing the outline of the Whangarei Heads, pohutukawa blossoms and a fantail bird, with the word “Whangarei” in white. A black band was printed down one side of the drawing. • ‘ \ “i certainly do not think this is fitting and proper for a publicity booklet. It says very little about Whangarei,” said Mr W. R. Vallance. “The place ddbicted could be in Japan. “What is supposed to be' the Whangarei Heads, has been drawn back to front.” ■ The president (Mr K. Haslett) said he would forward the members’ complaints to the proper quarters. “What is the black band down the side for?” asked Mr Vallance. “Mourning for a port.”' replied Mr H. M. May.
