One Union For Transport Workers ?
WELLINGTON, Tue. (P.A.).—The principle of the formation of a union covering all transport workers was endorsed by the national council of the New Zealand Tramways Authorities Employees’ Union at its annual conference. The national executive was instructed to investigate the possibility of amalgamation with the New Zealand Drivers’ Uhion as a preliminary step and with the object of having the matter referred back to the membership ’or approval. At the biennial conference of the New Zealand Transport Workers’ Federation, held yesterday, delegates werq ireseht representing the Drivers’ Federation, the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, the Railwav Tradesmen’s Association, the Waterside Workers’ Union, the Seamen’s Union, the Cooks and Stewards’ Union, and the Tramways Authorities Employees’ Union.
