Amended Awards
Several awards have been amended by the Arbitration Court in order to give effect to its wage pronouncement on April 12. Increases of 3}d and 4d an hour have been made in the minimum wage rates' laid down in the New Zealand motor trade employees’ award. Petrol station and garage attendants received an increase of 11/8 a week and youths employed as assistants an increase of 10 per cent. The wages of youths and junior girls employed under the northern laundry workers, dyers and dry-cleaners’ award have been raised by amounts varying from Gd to 7/6 a week. The rates for adult workers fcave. been increased by 8/11 a week. A rise of 11/3 has been given workers operating under the northern retail grocers’ assistants and drivers’ award. Junior assistants' benefit by a 10 per cent increase.
The minimum weekly wage for journeymen hairdressers has been increased by 13/4. Ladies’ hairdressers’ assistants received 2/6 to 9/6 more under the amended award and journeywomen 10/-, Local body labourers and workers will receive £7 a week and first-class gardeners £7/10/- a week under-the amended award for these workers outside the Auckland 10-mile radius.
