Naval Warrant Officer Dismissed
AUCKLAND. Tue. (Sp.).—A naval warrant officer. John Wallace Peckham, temporay commissioned gunner. Royal Navy, of H.M.N.Z.S. Bellona, was sentenced to be dismissed from His Majesty's service by a courtmartial at H.M.N.Z.S. Philomel yesterday. Accused pleaded not guilty to five charges relating to indecent acts to a steward, alleged to have occurred in H M.N.Z.S. Bellona on April 20. He was found guilty on two charges, of committing an indecent assault and of making an improper suggestion. The other three charges, of being in a confined space without reasonable excuse, and of soliciting, and inciting to commit an act of gross indecency, were held lo be not proven. Five witnesses were called by the prosecution, and accused and one other witness gave evidence lor the defence.
