Communists Rogues, Dupes, Traitors
TAURANGA, Tue. (P.A.) Communists, whom he described as rogues, dupes and traitors, either potential or intended, were strongly denounced by the Dominion president of the RSA (Sir Howard Kippenberger) at a reception in his honour yesterday and at the annual reunion of the Western Bay of Plenty Returned Services Association.
The past 12 months had made it quite clear that Communists were not entitled to consideration, he said. They were not interested in the welfare of the country and took their orders from Moscow. Communists were not entitled to be members of an honourable organisation. and he hoped next month would see them excluded from RSA membership. It was not a question of a witchhunt, but one of basic principles. One Communist, stated Sir Howard, told him that they would be in charge of New Zealand in 10 years’ time. The Communists were the potential traitors they said they were. COMPULSORY TRAINING
Sir Howard expressed the hope that this year would see reintroduction of compulsory military service. Those opposed to compulsory military service Sir Howard asked to look around and see who their friends were They were Communists, all cowards and those too selfish to give service to the country to which they belonged. He concluded: "See if you care to remain in their company.” (WHANGAREI DECISIONS—P. 3)
