Schools' Farewell Mr and Mrs West
Nearly 60 membex’s of the staffs of the Whangarei Boys’ and Gii'ls’ High Schools gathered at the girls’ school this morning to farewell Mr M. H. West, for 17 years custodian of the schools.
“When Mr_ Ryder was showing me over the school when I first came he said it was the best kept school in New Zealand; and I have found that to be time,” said the headmaster of the boys’ school (Mr H. A. Henderson). “Both Mr and Mrs West have been cooperative in every possible way and are held with respect by the boys. Mr West deserves promotion after the work he has done hei’e,” he said.
Mr L. G. Miller, first assistant of the boys' school, sain that Mr West would see many familiar faces at Auckland University College. “The 'relationship between the Wests and the school has always been harmonious,” he added.
The principal of the girls’ school (Miss C. S. Bell) said that it would be no pleasure to lose Mr and Mi’s West. She said she was amazed at the fine state in which they kept the schools. “They have been moi'e than caretakers,” she added. “Mr West has been on the Parents’ Association and had helped with the running of the school wherever possible. “We will always remember the 100 per cent contribution they made to the school.”
In reply, Mr West said that it would be a "big wrench” to leave Whangarei.
He made reference to Mi's West's fine efforts in helping him and said lie could not have continued if it had not'been for her
Mr and Mrs West were presented with two silver cake dishes.
