Will Not Contest Invercargill Seat
INVERCARRGILL, Fri. (P.A.).—For family and business reasons. Mr J. Ralph Hanan, Nationalist member for Invercargill, has decided not to contest the seat at the next general election.
In a statement, Mr Hanan said he had advised the executive of the Invercargill branch of the party that he would not seek re-election, but would continue to devote his full time to all his political duties until the end of the present Parliament. Mr Hannan is a partner in a legal firm in the city and was returned as the member for Invercargill in the 194 G election, unseating the Labour candidate (Mr W. M. C. Denham).
Appreciative references to the services rendered to New Zealand and to Southland in particular, by Mr Hannan were made today by the Leader of the Opposition (Mr Holland).
