AUCKLAND, Fri. (Sp.).—With 41 points out of a possible 42, IC. G. Smith, junr (St Kilda Municipal Band), won the B flat cornet championship for the second successive year at the New Zealand brass bands contest in the Town Hall yesterday. He retains the Bud Wills Memorial Challenge Shield. Only 18 years of age, Smith earned the praise of the judges for the standard of his playing. Yesterday’s results: Trombone Trio.—Auckland Waterskiers’ Silver Band, 92 points. 1; Well-1 ington Waterside Silver Band. BG, 2; j Ashburton Silver Band, 85, 3. B Flat Cornet Championship (open). K. G, Smith (St Kilda Municipal Bandn 41, 1; K. Caldwell (Hawera Municipal Band), 39, 2; N. G. Goffin (Woolston Brass Band), 31, 3. The first test selection was contested last night and will be followed by the second test selection this evening.
