Australian Athletes To Tour Dominion
WELLINGTON, Thu. (P.A.) Acceptance of five Australian champion athletes, including four Olympic representatives, and tentative acceptance of a further three, to tour New Zealand next year and to complete in an Australasian championships has been received by the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association.
There is also a possibility of Miss Shirley Strickland, the Australian Olympic representative, accompanying the team. The team will compete first in Auckland on February 14. The five definite tourists are::—J. F. Treloar (100 yd and 220 yd). M. Curotta (100 yd, 220 yd, 440vd), J. Marks (1 mile), G. C. Avery (broad and hop, step and jump), and R. Weinberg (120 yd, 220 yd and 440 yd hurdles). Advice was received from Australia that there is a chance that the Olympic stars H. McKenley and L. La Beach who are to tour that country in January may be able to compete at one or two meetings in New Zealand on their journey home. Nothing final can be arranged until the athletes are actually in Australia.
