Stormy Maiden Voyage For Ceramic

AUCKLAND, Mon. (Sp.).—Severe storms were experienced by the Auck-land-bound ship Ceramic on her maiden voyage to New Zealand under the Shaw Saville and Albion flag The ship, commanded by Captain A. V. Richardson, proved herself an excellent sea boat in heavy weather during the first seven days of her voyage from Liverpool. The worst day’s run was 206 miles, during which seas smashed over the bow, flooding, the decks and throwing spray on to the bridge 60 feet above the waterline. In the calmer weather that was experienced later in the voyage the Ceramic's best run was 445 miles Built by Cammell, Laird and Company as a sister ship to the Corinthic and Athenic the Ceramic was launched at Birkenhead on December 30, 1947. She has accommodation for 80 first class passengers and is designed for the New Zealand refrigerated cargo trade. An interesting feature of the lounge is the collection of Wedgwood pottery which is displayed in two cabinets. The fourth liner of this class, the Gothic is fitting out ready tG join the fleet in the near future.
