Wakakuro Enters NZ Coastal Service

AUCKLAND, Tue. (P.A.).—The first vessel to enter the refrigerated cargo trade on the New Zealand coast since the war, the Tasman Steamship Company’s converted minesweeper Wakakura, will sail for Dunedin this evening with a full cargo of Wiltshire pork. Run by a syndicate of ex-service-men, the Wakakura has been replaced on the transtasman run by the motor vessel Viti, which sails for Sydney on October 18 after refit.

Captain W. Clough Blair, managing director of the Tasman Steamship Co., said today that, in view of the shortage of railway trucks, there should ue plenty of cargo for the Wakakura on the coastal run.

Fruit and produce, in numerous cases, were being flown north from the South Island.

The Wakakura is due back from Dunedin on October 18.
