Northland First Day Stamp Sales £1217
A telegram of congratulation to Northland on its excellent first-day health stamp sales has been received by the acting chief postmaster at Whangarei (Mr G. W. F. Price) from the Director-General of the Post Office (Mr P. N. Cryer). Sales in Northland totalled £1217 5/7 for the first day.

More than £'50,000 worth of health stamps were sold throughout New Zealand on the first day the stamps were on sale.
This was announced by the Post-master-General (Mr Hackett) yesterday.
“It is a magnificent achievement." said the Minister. “Great credit is due to everyone who worked to make the first day a record. “It is a credit, too. to the whole-
hearted support of the public.” Figures from postal districts show Wellington at the top of the list with first day's sales totalling £11.876 (£7122 on the first day last year). Other district figures are: Dunedin, £8612 (£7508); Greymouth, £753 (£417); Invercargill, £2398 (£692); Masterton. £B2O (£124); Palmerston North, £3013 (£2188); Timaru, £lßl3 (£992); Westport, £IOO (£82); stamps branch, £4500 (£4357).
